Which Prescriptions Can Be Renewed Online?
Most requests are for long-term maintenance medications that have been steady for a while. The doctor looks at how long you have been on the drug, when the dose last changed and whether any monitoring, such as bloodwork or blood pressure checks, is overdue. A medication appearing below is not an automatic yes. It simply means that type of prescription is often suitable for a virtual review.

- Metformin and other diabetes medications, when monitoring is current
- Maintenance inhalers for asthma or COPD
- Birth control, allergy and acid reflux medications
- Non-controlled antidepressants or anxiety medications that have been stable
What Can't Be Refilled Online
Some prescriptions need more than a conversation. Opioids, benzodiazepines, ADHD stimulants and other controlled substances are never prescribed or renewed through a TelePlus Care online visit. The doctor also won't start a first prescription for a complex or undiagnosed condition, and won't renew a medication that first needs urgent tests, vital signs or a physical exam. When that is your situation, you will hear clearly why and where to go next.
Rural, Remote and Border Communities
In small towns and rural municipalities, the nearest walk-in clinic can be a long way off, and a routine renewal shouldn't cost you a day of work. A phone appointment needs nothing more than a phone, and video is optional. One rule matters near the provincial borders: you must be physically in Alberta for the whole appointment. If you live in Lloydminster, which straddles the Saskatchewan border, or you cross into British Columbia for work, schedule the call for a time you are on the Alberta side. Travelling out of province? Wait until you are home.

What Happens During the Visit
Booking takes a few minutes: you enter your medication details, your preferred pharmacy and your Alberta Health Card number if you have one. You get an email confirmation, and the team may phone to fill in anything missing. At your appointment time, the doctor asks how the medication is working, about side effects, allergies, other prescriptions and recent health changes. You finish the call knowing the outcome, whether that is a renewal sent to your pharmacy, a lab requisition or a recommendation for in-person care.
