Before you book
Have your medication bottle or pharmacy label handy: the drug name, strength, how you take it, and the pharmacy you want to use.
In Cold Lake, 4 Wing and the oil and gas industry are the region's biggest employers, and a routine renewal can be hard to fit around work. A Canadian licensed doctor can review a medication you already take by phone or video and send an approved renewal to your pharmacy, free with an active Alberta Health Card.
Book Prescription RefillFree with an active Alberta Health Card

Cold Lake residents who take an existing, stable, non-controlled medication can have it reviewed by a Canadian licensed doctor over secure phone or video. If renewal is appropriate, the prescription goes electronically to your chosen pharmacy. It's free with an active Alberta Health Card and $50 CAD without one, for up to 3 medications.
Clinical content is reviewed for accuracy and scope. TelePlus Care appointments go ahead only when a doctor agrees it is the right call, after a real assessment, and the doctor will explain the next step if virtual care is not the right fit.
According to a federal ombudsman report, 4 Wing was Cold Lake's largest employer for decades, and the oil and gas industry now employs slightly more people in the region. Work schedules in either field can make it tough to book a clinic appointment just to continue a medication that's working. TelePlus Care's refill visit lets a Canadian licensed doctor review a prescription you already take, by phone or video, and send an approved renewal electronically to your pharmacy. It's meant for steady, ongoing treatment, not new or urgent problems.
Canadian Armed Forces members are exempt from the Canada Health Act and receive their health care through the federally funded Canadian Forces Health Services system. At 4 Wing, the base medical centre is for military members only. If you're a serving member, route prescription renewals through that system. Civilians, including people who work on or near the base, can book a TelePlus Care refill visit like any other Albertan, as long as they're in Alberta during the call.
Need a refill in Cold Lake? Book a TelePlus Care online doctor review when you want a prescriber to check the medication, dose and recent health changes. If renewal is safe and clinically appropriate, it can be sent to your preferred pharmacy. Alberta pharmacists can renew many ongoing prescriptions exactly as written for a simple bridge; choose the doctor review when the pharmacy says no, the medication has not had a recent prescriber review, symptoms or side effects have changed, or the dose needs adjusting.
Doctors can often continue long-term medications that have kept a condition stable. Expect questions about how long you've been on the medication, the current dose, how you're feeling, allergies and any recent bloodwork. Decisions are made one patient at a time, so treat the list below as typical examples rather than a promise. If you've recently started a medication from another prescriber, tell the doctor, since interactions matter when deciding on a renewal.
Booking is done online. Complete the intake, pick a time between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM Mountain Time, and watch for the email confirmation. Same-day options may be available on the live calendar; the earliest selectable appointment is at least two hours after booking. When the doctor connects, they'll confirm your identity and that you're located in Alberta. A charged phone and a quiet, private spot make the call easier, and video is optional if your connection is weak.
If the doctor renews your medication, the prescription is sent electronically to the pharmacy you selected, so you won't need a paper copy. Pick whichever location is easiest for you, in town or closer to home if you live in a nearby community such as Bonnyville. Processing times vary, and a quick call before you head over can save a wasted trip. You can also ask whether the pharmacy delivers. Pharmacists with questions about the prescription can reach TelePlus Care directly.
A refill visit isn't the place for new or worsening symptoms. Call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, confusion, fainting or signs of a stroke. Cold Lake Healthcare Centre at 314 25 Street has a 24/7 emergency department, along with general surgery, obstetrics and on-site imaging. For round-the-clock nurse advice, call Health Link 811. Opioids, benzodiazepines, ADHD stimulants and other controlled substances aren't prescribed or renewed online, and neither are first prescriptions for complex or undiagnosed conditions or medications that need urgent tests, vital signs or an exam.
You can book a refill review without a family doctor. For ongoing care, the Cold Lake Primary Care Network runs its main clinic on the second floor of the Cold Lake Healthcare Centre and a second location, the Kingsway Clinic, at Canex 4 Wing. The network posts changes to clinic hours on its Facebook page, so check there before going in. Alberta Find a Provider lists family doctors and nurse practitioners accepting new patients across the province.
Portage College's Cold Lake campus is in the Cold Lake Energy Centre, and its aerospace campus at the Cold Lake Regional Airport trains students in the Aircraft Structures Technician program. If you relocated for school and your prescriber is in another community, you don't need to make the trip back to continue a stable medication. Book a phone or video visit between classes, and have the renewal sent to a pharmacy near campus. The same pricing applies: free with an active Alberta Health Card, $50 CAD without.
