Too sick for the drive down the QEII to work? From home in Airdrie, you can see a Canadian licensed doctor by secure video, and if a note is medically appropriate, the signed copy usually lands in your email according to the timing shown during booking. Airdrie residents who need proof of illness for an employer, school or benefits plan can book a virtual assessment with TelePlus Care. During the visit, a Canadian licensed doctor decides whether a note is appropriate, and you must be in Alberta at the time. Appointments run 8 AM to 7 PM daily, Mountain Time.
Clinical content is reviewed for accuracy and scope. TelePlus Care appointments go ahead only when a doctor agrees it is the right call, after a real assessment, and the doctor will explain the next step if virtual care is not the right fit.

TelePlus Care’s lead physician reviews our clinical content and supports safe, patient-focused virtual care across Canada.
Choose an appointment time, answer the intake questions, and have three things ready: when you got sick, which days or shifts you've missed, and anything your workplace or school has asked you to fill in. The doctor meets you by secure video, asks what's been going on, and makes a medical decision about whether a note fits your situation. Nothing is signed before that conversation happens. If a note is appropriate, it's sent to your email, according to the timing shown during booking, so you can forward it to your manager in Airdrie or Calgary the same day.
Most often the request comes from outside: your employer, your school or a benefits plan. Workplaces tend to ask once an absence passes the length their policy sets, or when sick days keep repeating. Going back after an illness or injury is another common trigger, especially in jobs that involve driving, lifting or machinery, where a supervisor wants written confirmation that you're fit for duty. Students need documentation to reschedule a test or a placement shift, and insurers want it before short-term disability pay begins. If you're facing a longer recovery, Alberta's long-term illness and injury leave requires a medical certificate stating the estimated duration.
Yes, within the same limits a careful doctor would apply in a clinic room. Video works well for illnesses where your description of symptoms, their timing and their effect on your day gives a clear picture. It doesn't work when the doctor needs to press on your abdomen, listen to your chest, examine an injured joint or order tests to understand what's happening, and in those cases you'll be directed to in-person care instead. The doctor also won't promise a note in advance, won't change the assessment date, and won't put your diagnosis on a standard note.
Why spend part of your sick day getting to a waiting room when a doctor can check you over from home?
Either way, a doctor still has to check you over. Going online just saves you the trip and the waiting room when you do not need to be seen in person.
Getting a note should fit around your recovery, your job, and your classes. TelePlus Care lets you ask for a real medical note online, after a Canadian-licensed doctor has checked you over.
Whatever your employer or school calls it, the document is a doctor's signed confirmation that you were assessed, plus the period you weren't fit for work or classes. Mention who will read it and what they've asked for, and the doctor words it to match, as long as the assessment supports it.
Airdrie sits on the QEII just north of Calgary, and if your job is in the city, getting there means a drive south or a ride on the Intercity Express, routes 901 and 902. When you're ill, that commute is the last thing you should be attempting, and it's also why fitting a clinic visit into either city can swallow the day. A video visit lets you stay in bed between symptoms and still have documentation ready for a manager in a Calgary office. You also avoid sitting in a waiting room while you're contagious. If your employer is strict about when notes are due, book the earliest slot you can.
Book a video visit only if you're well enough to be assessed that way. Chest pain, severe shortness of breath, sudden confusion, a drooping face or heavy bleeding call for 911 right away. Airdrie has no hospital of its own, so life-threatening emergencies are handled at Calgary hospitals such as Peter Lougheed Centre or Foothills Medical Centre. For an injury or illness that needs hands-on care but isn't life-threatening, the urgent care at Airdrie Community Health Centre on Main Street S is open 24 hours. If you can't tell which one you need, Health Link 811 offers free nurse advice at any hour.
A virtual note visit handles a short illness well, but if you're off for weeks, working through a disability claim or seeing the same problem return, you're better served by a family doctor who knows your history. The Highland Primary Care Network serves Airdrie along with Crossfield, Carstairs and Didsbury. Alberta Find a Provider, run by Primary Care Alberta at albertafindaprovider.ca, shows which family doctors and nurse practitioners are taking patients. Until you're attached to a practice, TelePlus Care can still assess short-term illnesses and provide notes when they're appropriate.
