A return to work certificate, also called a fitness for work or medical clearance note, confirms you are well enough to go back to your job. From Edmonton, you can have the full assessment by secure video or phone with a Canadian licensed provider. The assessment visit is covered with an active Alberta Health Card, or $80 without one, and the $60 certificate fee is charged only if you are cleared.

In Edmonton, a TelePlus Care return to work certificate is issued only after a full assessment visit with a Canadian licensed provider. The assessment visit is covered with an active Alberta Health Card, or $80 without one. If the provider clears you to return, the certificate is $60. If not, there is no certificate fee.
Clinical content is reviewed for accuracy and scope. TelePlus Care appointments go ahead only when a doctor agrees it is the right call, after a real assessment, and the doctor will explain the next step if virtual care is not the right fit.
Whether your workplace is downtown or out in the wider metro area, the request for clearance usually comes from a workplace policy, a collective agreement or a benefits plan. Jobs that involve driving or lifting are the most likely to ask before you return. Doing the assessment by video or phone means no trip across the city while you are still getting your strength back.
A return to work certificate is not the same as a regular doctor's note. A note explains why you were away. The certificate confirms you are fit to go back, gives your return date and, when needed, lists temporary limits on your duties, such as lighter work or shorter shifts.

The certificate is never issued on request alone. A provider first needs to understand what happened, how you are recovering and what your job involves.

There are two separate charges, and you only pay the second one if you are cleared. The visit is billed like any regular TelePlus Care appointment.
Sometimes it is too early to go back, or the provider needs more information first, such as a specialist report, test results or an in-person exam. In that case you are not charged the $60 certificate fee, and the provider explains the next step. That may be more time off, a follow-up visit, or seeing a doctor in person.
When the provider decides an exam or testing has to happen in person, they will direct you to it. Estimated emergency wait times for Edmonton-area hospitals are published online, Health Link 811 offers free nurse advice around the clock, and 911 is for anything life-threatening.

Having these ready helps the provider make a decision in one visit. Patients in Edmonton and the surrounding area, including Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Leduc, Spruce Grove, Fort Saskatchewan and Beaumont, book the same way.
