Women's Health Clinic in Calgary — Virtual Care for Every Stage

TelePlus Care is Calgary's online women's health clinic — a single, trusted place to talk with an Alberta-licensed family physician about contraception, UTIs, yeast and bacterial infections, menopause, PCOS, hormone balance, weight management, and women's mental health. Most appointments are available same-day or next-day for women across Beltline, Mission, Kensington, Bridgeland, Inglewood, Mount Royal, Marda Loop, McKenzie Towne, Cranston, Tuscany, Bowness, Hillhurst, plus Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, Chestermere, and Strathmore. The medical consultation may be covered by Alberta Health Care for eligible AHCIP holders. Our physicians are family doctors, not specialist OB/GYNs, so we are honest about what virtual care can and cannot do — and we coordinate referrals to Foothills Women's Health, the Calgary Women's Health Clinic, or AHS Calgary Zone gynecology when an in-person specialist is the right next step.

Calgary Women's Health — How We Fit With AHS

Calgary has excellent specialist resources at Foothills Medical Centre Women's Health, the Calgary Women's Health Clinic, Peter Lougheed Centre, Rockyview General Hospital, South Health Campus, and Alberta Children's Hospital. These are the right destinations for surgical care, complex specialist gynecology, obstetric care, and pediatric/adolescent women's health. They also carry significant wait times for non-urgent referrals.

TelePlus Care fills the gap for the everyday women's health concerns that do not need a specialist — the things that previously meant a same-week appointment with a family doctor and now, between family doctor wait times and walk-in clinic queues, are harder to access. We are not a replacement for AHS specialist care; we are a fast, accessible front door for the concerns a family physician can manage virtually.

Privacy and Confidentiality

Women's health is personal. Many of the reasons women contact our clinic — contraception, a UTI that keeps coming back, an STI question, perimenopause, anxiety — are sensitive concerns most patients prefer to discuss privately. Every TelePlus Care visit takes place over secure, encrypted video or phone. There are no waiting rooms, no chance of bumping into someone you know in Mount Royal or Beltline, and no need to take time off work. Your records are protected under Alberta's Health Information Act and shared only with your written consent or as required for your care.

Lab Work and Imaging Across Calgary

Most women's health workups need confirmatory testing. After your virtual visit, your physician issues requisitions you take to any community lab or imaging centre in Calgary and surrounding communities. There is usually no out-of-pocket cost to AHCIP holders for the requisitioned test.

  • Calgary Lab Services (Alberta Precision Laboratories) — community collection sites across Beltline, downtown, Kensington, Bridgeland, McKenzie Towne, Cranston, Tuscany, Bowness, Hillhurst, plus Airdrie, Cochrane, and Okotoks.
  • EFW Radiology — pelvic ultrasound, breast imaging, and bone density at multiple Calgary locations.
  • Mayfair Diagnostics Calgary — full diagnostic imaging services including pelvic ultrasound and DEXA.
  • AHS Calgary Zone hospitals — Foothills Medical Centre, Peter Lougheed Centre, Rockyview General Hospital, South Health Campus, and Alberta Children's Hospital — for emergency and specialist services.

When You Need a Specialist — How Referrals Work

Some concerns are beyond the scope of virtual family medicine and need a specialist OB/GYN. We are honest about that and coordinate referrals through Alberta's standard specialist referral system. Common reasons we refer include abnormal Pap smears requiring colposcopy, suspected endometriosis or fibroids needing surgical opinion, postmenopausal bleeding, recurrent miscarriage, infertility evaluation, and ongoing abnormal uterine bleeding requiring procedural intervention. We also refer for any procedure requiring physical presence — IUD insertion or removal, pelvic exam, Pap smear, endometrial biopsy, or surgical care — typically to Foothills Women's Health, the Calgary Women's Health Clinic, or another AHS Calgary Zone provider.

Why Choose TelePlus Care

We offer Calgary women a fast, transparent, and accessible women's health clinic — with honest scope and a real pathway to specialist care when needed. Our patient base spans U of C and Mount Royal students, downtown professionals, McKenzie Towne and Auburn Bay families, and Cochrane and Airdrie commuters who would otherwise drive into the city for routine concerns.

  • Alberta-licensed physicians — every consultation with a family doctor in good standing with the Alberta's medical regulator.
  • Same-day or next-day availability — most patients seen within 24 hours.
  • Full range of women's health services in one clinic — contraception, infections, menopause, PCOS, mental health, weight management.
  • Honest scope — we explain up front what we can and cannot do virtually; pelvic exams, Pap smears, IUD insertion, and colposcopy are referred.
  • AHCIP-eligible consultations — covered by Alberta Health Care for eligible residents.
  • Specialist referrals coordinated through the AHS Calgary Zone (Foothills Women's Health, Calgary Women's Health Clinic) when needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

We provide virtual consultations for birth control and contraception, UTIs, yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, menopause and perimenopause, PCOS, hormone questions, weight management, and women's mental health. Our physicians are Alberta-licensed family doctors. For services requiring an in-person specialist — pelvic exam, Pap smear, IUD insertion, surgical gynecology — we coordinate referrals through Foothills Women's Health, the Calgary Women's Health Clinic, or another AHS Calgary Zone provider.

No. TelePlus Care physicians are licensed Alberta family physicians with experience in women's health, not specialist obstetrician-gynecologists. We are transparent about this. The majority of common women's health concerns are managed by family doctors; for concerns that need a specialist OB/GYN, we arrange the referral through Alberta's standard specialist referral pathway to Calgary specialists.

Yes, for the majority of common concerns. UTIs, yeast and bacterial vaginosis, contraception, menopause, basic PCOS, and many menstrual issues are routinely managed by family physicians and do not require an in-person examination. Our physicians take a thorough history, order labs when needed, prescribe treatment, and refer to a specialist when in-person care is required.

Alberta cervical screening guidelines recommend Pap smears every three years for most women aged 25 to 69. We cannot perform a Pap smear virtually — it requires an in-person pelvic examination. We can review your screening history, tell you whether you are due, and refer you to a Calgary primary care or women's health clinic for the test.

We provide IUD counselling virtually — discussing hormonal versus copper, side effects, and whether an IUD is right for you. The actual insertion must be performed in-person by a trained provider, so we refer you to a Calgary clinic that performs the procedure.

The medical consultation may be covered by Alberta Health Care (AHCIP) for eligible Alberta residents with a valid AHCIP card. Prescription medication is not covered by AHCIP — pharmacy costs are separate, although many private and group benefits plans cover women's health prescriptions.

Same-day or next-day appointments are usually available. Most Calgary patients are seen within 24 hours of booking — far faster than the months-long wait common for non-urgent specialist gynecology referrals through AHS Calgary Zone.

Virtual care is not appropriate for emergencies. For severe pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, signs of pregnancy complications, fever with abdominal pain, or any concern requiring immediate physical examination, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department — Foothills Medical Centre, Peter Lougheed Centre, Rockyview General Hospital, South Health Campus, or Alberta Children's Hospital.
