What online mental health support looks like in Windsor-Essex
Windsor is a close-knit border city, but reaching mental health care here can still mean long waits. Across Ontario, waits to see a psychiatrist often run several months and sometimes longer than a year, and many residents don't have a family doctor to begin a referral. Online mental health support offers another door. With TelePlus Care, you connect with a qualified provider by secure, private video — no drive down the E.C. Row Expressway, no waiting room, no lost hours off the line at a local plant. Sessions happen wherever you feel safe: your living room in Forest Glade, a quiet office in downtown Windsor, or a room near the University of Windsor. Care is private and judgment-free, and you choose times that fit shift work, caregiving, or a student schedule. It's meant to complement the local system — Windsor Regional Hospital, Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, and your family doctor — not to replace it.
Concerns we help Windsor adults work through
Whatever brought you here, it's valid — and you don't have to explain it perfectly to begin. People across Windsor-Essex reach out during hard, ordinary human moments: a marriage that's unravelling, a breakup or divorce, the loss of someone they love, or the shock that lingers after a car accident on the 401 or an injury at work. Others are living with anxiety that won't switch off, panic attacks, low mood and depression, the slow grind of burnout, or nights spent staring at the ceiling. These experiences are common and treatable. A provider will help you understand what you're feeling, build practical coping tools, and move at a pace that feels manageable. There are no guarantees of a particular outcome, but many people find real relief and a clearer sense of direction over time.
- Relationship problems, communication, and separation
- Breakups, divorce, and co-parenting stress
- Grief and bereavement
- Trauma and PTSD, including after a motor-vehicle or workplace accident
- Anxiety, chronic worry, and panic attacks
- Depression and persistent low mood
- Work stress and burnout
- Sleep problems and insomnia
How talk therapy works: evidence-based approaches
Talk therapy — also called counselling or psychotherapy — is delivered by qualified providers such as registered psychotherapists, social workers, or counsellors. It's a structured conversation with a trained professional, not just advice. Together you set goals and work through them session by session. Your provider draws on evidence-based approaches, matched to what you're facing rather than a one-size-fits-all script. Early sessions focus on understanding your story and what you want to change; later ones build and practise skills. Many people meet weekly or every other week to start, then space visits out as things improve. You can ask your provider why they're using a particular approach at any time — informed, collaborative care is the whole point, and you stay in the driver's seat.
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): notice and reshape the thought and behaviour patterns that fuel anxiety and depression
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): a structured approach for processing traumatic memories and PTSD
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): make room for difficult feelings while taking action guided by your values
- Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT): use mindfulness skills to ease stress and lower the risk of depression returning
Medication management, explained honestly
Therapy helps many people on its own. For some, medication can be a useful part of the plan. At TelePlus Care, this is handled only by Canadian-licensed doctors, and only when it is clinically appropriate after a proper assessment — never automatically. Where indicated, a doctor may start or adjust antidepressants such as SSRIs or SNRIs, which are commonly used for depression and anxiety. Medication is always a shared decision: your doctor will explain the likely benefits, possible side effects, how long it may take to work, and how you'll be followed up. Importantly, some medications cannot and will not be prescribed through online visits. Controlled substances — including benzodiazepines (such as those used for acute anxiety or sleep) and stimulants used for ADHD — are not prescribed via online telehealth. If those may be right for you, your doctor will help you access appropriate in-person care.
- Prescribing is done only by Canadian-licensed doctors, and only after an assessment
- SSRIs or SNRIs may be started or adjusted for depression or anxiety when clinically appropriate
- No controlled substances online: benzodiazepines and ADHD stimulants are not prescribed through telehealth
- Prescriptions can be sent to your preferred Windsor-area pharmacy, with follow-up

Care that fits Windsor life
Windsor works hard. Between rotating shifts in the auto sector, cross-border commutes, classes at the University of Windsor or St. Clair College, and family life in neighbourhoods from Riverside to Sandwich Town, finding time for your own wellbeing is genuinely difficult. Virtual care is built for that reality. There's no commute and no waiting room, so a session can fit into a lunch break, an evening after the kids are down, or a gap between classes. Appointments run on Eastern Time, matched to Windsor's schedule. Everything happens over secure, private video, so what you share stays between you and your provider. And because care is remote, you're not limited to whoever happens to be taking new clients within driving distance — you can be matched with a provider who fits your needs and can see you soon.
- Flexible and evening times for shift workers and students
- No travel across town or the border for an appointment
- Private, secure video from wherever you feel comfortable
- Continuity with the same provider over time
How to start
Getting started is simple, and there's no pressure to have the right words ready. You choose a mental health appointment, share a little about what's going on through a secure intake form, and confirm a time that works for you. Most people can begin with a same-week or next-week visit rather than waiting months. Your first session is about getting to know you and shaping a plan together — talk therapy, and where appropriate a conversation about medication with a doctor. If online care turns out not to be the right fit for what you're facing, your provider will help point you toward local options across Windsor-Essex. Taking the first step is often the hardest part, and you've already started just by reading this.
- Choose a mental health appointment that fits your concern
- Complete a short, secure, confidential intake form
- Confirm a same-week or next-week time on Eastern Time
- Meet your provider by video and build a plan together
