TelePlus Care provides Hamilton, Ontario adults with virtual mental health support: talk therapy from qualified providers for relationships, grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, burnout, and sleep, plus doctor-led medication review with SSRIs or SNRIs when appropriate. Care is by secure video and is not for emergencies. In a crisis, call or text 988, or 911 if in danger.
Clinical content is reviewed for accuracy and scope. TelePlus Care appointments go ahead only when a doctor agrees it is the right call, after a real assessment, and the doctor will explain the next step if virtual care is not the right fit.
Online mental health support means meeting a qualified therapist or a Canadian-licensed doctor over secure, encrypted video - no waiting room, no parking at the West 5th Campus, no drive down the Claremont Access. For many Hamilton adults, the hardest part isn't willingness; it's access. In Ontario, a psychiatry referral can mean waiting roughly four months and sometimes more than a year, and non-urgent outpatient referrals often run six to eighteen months. Virtual talk therapy can be a faster, lower-pressure first step while you stay connected to your family doctor and OHIP-funded services. You choose a private, comfortable place - your apartment in Corktown, a quiet room in Ancaster, or your car on a lunch break in Stoney Creek. Sessions are one-to-one and confidential. This is planned, non-emergency care; if you are in immediate danger, the crisis resources further down come first.
People reach out for all kinds of reasons, and none of them are too small. Sometimes it's a relationship that's fraying, a breakup that knocked the ground out from under you, or a divorce reshaping your family and your week. Sometimes it's grief - a parent, a partner, a pregnancy, a friend. Sometimes a collision on the QEW or the Red Hill Valley Parkway leaves you shaken long after the bruises heal, with flashbacks, hypervigilance, or fear of getting back behind the wheel. And sometimes it's the quieter, grinding things: anxiety and panic attacks, low mood and depression, chronic stress, burnout from shift work at a Hamilton hospital or an industrial schedule, or nights when sleep just won't come. Whatever brought you here, our providers listen first and build a plan around what you actually want to change.
Good therapy isn't one-size-fits-all. After understanding your history and goals, your provider draws on evidence-based approaches suited to what you're facing. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps you notice and shift the thought-and-behaviour loops that fuel anxiety, panic, and depression. For trauma and PTSD - including after an accident or assault - providers may use trauma-focused methods such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which helps the brain reprocess distressing memories. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) builds psychological flexibility, helping you act on your values even when hard feelings show up. Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) can lower the risk of depression relapse and quiet a racing mind at 3 a.m. Many people benefit from a blend. Therapy is collaborative: you set the pace, and progress is reviewed openly so the plan reflects what's genuinely helping - not guesswork.
Talk therapy helps many people on its own. For others, medication is a useful part of the plan. When it's clinically appropriate, our Canadian-licensed doctors - registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) - can assess whether an antidepressant makes sense, start or adjust it, and monitor how you respond over follow-up visits. In practice that usually means SSRIs or SNRIs for depression and anxiety, prescribed conservatively and reviewed for both side effects and benefit. Being honest matters here: we do not prescribe controlled substances online. That means no benzodiazepines (such as lorazepam or clonazepam) for anxiety, and no stimulants (such as methylphenidate or amphetamine-based ADHD medications). Those require in-person assessment and monitoring, and safe-prescribing rules in Ontario reflect that. If your situation points that way, we'll tell you plainly and help you find the right local pathway.
You deserve to know who is on the other side of the screen. Talk therapy is delivered by qualified mental-health providers, and any medical assessment or prescribing is done by doctors licensed in Canada and registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. This page was medically reviewed by Dr. Maher Jerudi, MD. Your privacy is protected: sessions run on an encrypted platform, and your health information is handled under Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and federal PIPEDA standards. Counselling with a non-physician therapist is generally a private-pay or insurance-covered service, similar to seeing a psychologist in Ontario, while physician visits may be covered where OHIP eligibility applies - we'll be clear about any costs before you book. We coordinate with, rather than replace, your family doctor and Hamilton's public system, including St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton and Health811 for provincial health advice.

We match you with a provider suited to your concern - a therapist for talk-based support, or a doctor if medication questions are part of the picture. Most people are seen within the same or the following week. There's no pressure to have the right words, and no expectation that you have it all figured out. If at any point your needs call for in-person or specialized care, we'll help you get there. You can begin whenever you feel ready.
