When We Refer You to a Specialist
TelePlus Care doctors are licensed physicians with focused expertise in internal medicine, metabolism, and obesity medicine. They manage common, stable hormone problems and refer to a specialist when advanced expertise is needed. We arrange a referral to a specialist for situations such as:
- Complicated or unstable thyroid disease, including suspected thyroid nodules
- Type 1 diabetes or hard-to-control diabetes needing specialist input
- Pituitary or adrenal disorders
- Suspected hormone-producing tumours or unusual hormone test results
- Hormone problems that do not respond to initial treatment
When to Seek In-Person or Emergency Care in Cambridge
Virtual care is not suitable for a hormone-related emergency. If you have any of the following, go to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital emergency department or call 911.
- Signs of very high blood sugar: confusion, deep rapid breathing, fruity breath, or severe dehydration
- Signs of very low blood sugar: shakiness, sweating, confusion, or fainting that does not improve after eating
- Possible thyroid storm: high fever, racing or irregular heartbeat, agitation, or confusion
- Severe vomiting or dehydration that prevents you from keeping fluids down
