Online Mental Health Support Across Alberta
Life in Alberta can be full and demanding — long shifts in the energy sector, exam season near the University of Calgary or University of Alberta, a hard winter, or a loss that quietly stays with you. TelePlus Care offers warm, confidential online therapy and counselling to adults across the province, from Calgary's Beltline and Kensington to Edmonton's Old Strathcona and Garneau, plus Lethbridge, Red Deer, and rural communities in between. We support you through relationship struggles, breakups and divorce, grief, trauma after an accident, anxiety and panic attacks, depression, work burnout, and sleep problems. Sessions happen over secure video, wherever you feel safe, and most people can begin with a same or next-week intake. You do not have to wait to feel better.

TelePlus Care provides online mental health support to adults across Alberta, including Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge and Red Deer. Licensed providers deliver talk therapy by secure video for anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship issues, burnout and sleep. Doctors may prescribe antidepressants when appropriate. Controlled substances are not prescribed online. This service is not for emergencies.
- The Mental Health Commission of Canada estimates that about 1 in 5 people in Canada experiences a mental health problem or illness in any given year — reaching out puts you in very good company.
- In Alberta, seeing a psychiatrist through the public system usually requires a referral from a family doctor or nurse practitioner, and reported waits can run from several months to over a year depending on urgency and location.
- Free, confidential support is available 24/7: the Canada-wide 988 Suicide Crisis Helpline (call or text 988) and the Alberta Mental Health Helpline (1-877-303-2642).
Clinical content is reviewed for accuracy and scope. TelePlus Care appointments proceed only when clinically appropriate after a real assessment, and the doctor will explain the next step if virtual care is not the right fit.
Online mental health support, made for Alberta
Online mental health support means meeting a qualified provider by secure, private video from wherever you feel most comfortable — your apartment in Edmonton's Garneau, a quiet room in Calgary, or a farmhouse hours from the nearest clinic. For many Albertans, that removes the real barriers: winter highways, long drives from communities like Grande Prairie or Fort McMurray, shift work in the trades, and the wait for in-person care. Since September 2024, Recovery Alberta has been the province's main public provider of mental health and addiction services, and public psychiatry waits can still stretch for months. TelePlus Care works alongside that system — not as an emergency service, but as a faster, more flexible way for adults to start talk therapy and, where clinically appropriate, doctor-led care. You choose the time; we handle the rest. Sessions are confidential, and most people begin within the same or the following week.
The concerns we help Albertans work through
Reaching out does not mean something is 'wrong' with you. It means something in your life deserves care and attention. Albertans come to us at all kinds of moments — after a breakup, during a divorce, while grieving a parent, or when a car accident on the QEII leaves more than physical scars. Others arrive worn down by anxiety that will not switch off, panic attacks that appear from nowhere, low mood that steals the things they used to enjoy, or burnout after years of demanding work. You can bring one concern or several, and sessions move at your pace. Whatever brought you here, you will be met with warmth and without judgment.
- Relationship difficulties, communication struggles, breakups and separation
- Divorce, co-parenting stress, and rebuilding after a relationship ends
- Grief and loss, including sudden or complicated bereavement
- Trauma and PTSD, including after a motor-vehicle or workplace accident
- Anxiety, panic attacks, and constant worry
- Depression, low mood, and loss of motivation
- Chronic stress, work burnout, and trouble switching off
- Sleep problems and disrupted routines, including from shift work
Therapy approaches our providers use
Good therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Your TelePlus Care provider will listen first, then suggest an approach that fits what you are working through — and adjust it as you go. Many of our providers draw on structured, evidence-based methods that have been widely studied for the concerns Albertans bring to us. These are talking therapies: there is no pressure to relive anything before you are ready, and you stay in control of the pace. Some people want concrete coping tools; others want space to make sense of a loss or a change. Both are valid, and a good therapist can blend approaches over time. In your first sessions, you and your provider will set goals together and revisit them, so you can see what is helping and change course if something is not working for you.
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) — practical tools for anxiety, depression, panic and unhelpful thought patterns
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) — used to process trauma and painful memories, such as after an accident
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) — building psychological flexibility and moving toward what matters to you
- Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) — reducing stress and lowering the risk of depression returning
Medication management — what doctors can and cannot prescribe online
Talk therapy helps many people on its own. For some, medication can be a helpful part of the picture — and TelePlus Care is transparent about what that does and does not include online. Talk therapy is delivered by qualified mental-health providers. Separately, a Canadian-licensed physician can review whether medication may help and, when it is clinically appropriate and safe, prescribe or manage certain medications for conditions like depression and anxiety. This always follows a real assessment, respects Alberta and Canadian prescribing rules, and is a shared decision — never something pushed on you. Medication is not required to work with us, and many people never need it. If you already take something prescribed elsewhere, your provider can factor that into your care and coordinate where appropriate.
- Doctors may prescribe or adjust antidepressants such as SSRIs and SNRIs when clinically appropriate
- Any prescription follows a proper assessment and often works best alongside therapy
- Controlled substances are not prescribed online — this includes benzodiazepines (such as Ativan, Xanax or clonazepam) and ADHD stimulants (such as Adderall or Vyvanse)
- We are not a walk-in prescription service and will never guarantee a specific medication
- If medication is not the right fit, your provider will talk you through other options

Is online support right for you — and when it isn't
Online therapy suits many people, but honesty matters more than a sales pitch. It works well when you are an adult, physically safe, and able to find a private space and a stable connection for your sessions. It is a strong fit for anxiety, low mood, grief, stress, relationship struggles, trauma recovery, and building healthier routines. It is not the right tool for a mental-health emergency, an active suicidal crisis, or situations that need in-person or hospital care — for those, please use the crisis resources above or call 911. We also cannot promise specific outcomes; therapy is a process, and progress can be uneven. What we can promise is a warm, qualified provider, a confidential space, and an honest conversation about whether we are the right fit — and, if we are not, help pointing you toward care that is.
