Ontario Sick Leave Rules
The Ontario Employment Standards Act, 2000 provides up to 3 unpaid sick days per year after 2 weeks of employment. As of October 28, 2024, employers can no longer require a medical certificate for the standard 3-day ESA sick leave, but longer absences, insurer claims, and short-term disability still need physician documentation. Federally regulated workers in Ontario get up to 10 paid sick days under the Canada Labour Code.
