Alberta patients can see Dr. Maher Jerudi, a physician certified in internal medicine and obesity medicine, for medical weight management online. If your family doctor or nurse practitioner refers you and you have an active Alberta Health Card, your weight-loss visits are covered by Alberta Health. If you don't have a referral, you can still book directly as a private visit. This page explains both options and how to get a referral sent.

In Alberta, TelePlus Care weight-loss visits with Dr. Jerudi are covered by Alberta Health when you have an active Alberta Health Card and a referral from your family doctor or nurse practitioner. Without a referral, the initial assessment is a $149 private visit and follow-ups are $99. Medication costs are separate.
Clinical content is reviewed for accuracy and scope. TelePlus Care appointments go ahead only when a doctor agrees it is the right call, after a real assessment, and the doctor will explain the next step if virtual care is not the right fit.
You choose how your care is paid for when you book. Both options lead to the same appointment with the same doctor. The only difference is whether Alberta Health pays for the visit.

A referral is a request from your own primary care provider asking a physician with focused expertise to see you. For weight management, ask at your next appointment with your family doctor or nurse practitioner, or call their office and ask whether they can send one.
Our team checks that the referral is on file before your covered appointment. If it hasn't arrived, we call you before the visit. You can reschedule to give your doctor's office more time, or continue with the appointment as a private visit. We never charge a card for a covered booking without talking to you first.
The first appointment is a full medical assessment by secure phone or video. Dr. Jerudi reviews your weight history, what you have already tried, your current medications, related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or PCOS, and any recent lab results. You leave with a clear plan, which may include blood work, lifestyle support, a prescription when it is clinically appropriate, or referral elsewhere.

The referral covers your medical visits with Dr. Jerudi. It does not cover medication. Weight-management medications such as semaglutide or tirzepatide are paid for at the pharmacy through your private drug plan, Alberta Blue Cross coverage if you have it, or out of pocket. Your pharmacist can confirm the price and coverage before you fill a prescription.
