Online STI testing in British Columbia is a two-step process. First, a licensed doctor meets you by video to review your symptoms, recent exposures, and risk factors. Based on that conversation, the doctor decides which tests are appropriate and issues a laboratory requisition. You then visit a nearby LifeLabs collection site to provide samples such as urine or blood. Consider booking a visit if any of the following apply:

Which STI and STD Tests Can Be Arranged
Your doctor selects tests based on your history and symptoms. The most common tests arranged are chlamydia and gonorrhea, usually by urine NAAT or a swab, and syphilis and HIV, which require a blood draw. Hepatitis and herpes testing can be added where your exposure or symptoms make them relevant. We do not advertise fixed panel details. Window Periods: Why Timing Your Test Matters
Some infections do not appear immediately after exposure. HIV and syphilis, for instance, can take days to several weeks to become detectable in the blood, a span known as the window period. When to Seek In-Person or Emergency Care

If you may have had a high-risk HIV exposure within the last 72 hours, you may need post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and should seek urgent in-person care immediately at your nearest hospital emergency department, such as Vancouver General Hospital, Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, or Kelowna General Hospital. Do not wait for an online visit.
- Possible high-risk HIV exposure within 72 hours (urgent PEP may be needed)
- Severe pelvic, lower abdominal, or testicular pain, especially with fever
- High fever, feeling very unwell, or spreading rash
- Pregnancy with possible STI symptoms or exposure
- Heavy bleeding or rapidly worsening symptoms
