Sick Leave Rules Across Canada
Sick leave entitlements vary by province. Federally regulated workers (banks, airlines, telecoms, interprovincial rail) get up to 10 paid sick days under the Canada Labour Code. Employers may ask for a doctor's note as proof for extended absences.
- BC: 5 paid sick days per year under the Employment Standards Act
- Ontario: 3 unpaid sick days under the Employment Standards Act, 2000
- Alberta, MB, SK, NS, NB: limited unpaid sick days under provincial codes
- Federally regulated workers: up to 10 paid days under the Canada Labour Code
