Birth Control Online in Ontario β Same-Day Prescription Province-Wide
Birth control online in Ontario is available through TelePlus Care, an Alberta-based virtual clinic offering paid out-of-province consultations to all 12.5 million Ontario residents. Our physicians are licensed and can review your medical history, screen for contraindications, and issue a same-day prescription for combined oral contraceptives, progestin-only pills, the patch, the ring, or emergency contraception. Because OHIP does not cover virtual private birth control consultations, the visit is offered at a transparent flat fee, typically $40-$80. Your prescription can be filled at any Ontario pharmacy.

What Is an Online Birth Control Consultation in Ontario?
An online birth control consultation is a private virtual visit with a physician who reviews your medical history, blood pressure, lifestyle, and reproductive goals before issuing a contraceptive prescription. For Ontario residents, TelePlus Care delivers this service through secure video or phone with licensed doctors. Because we operate as a paid out-of-province virtual clinic, the consultation is offered at a transparent flat rate rather than billed to OHIP. The result is the same as a walk-in visit: a legally valid prescription you can fill at any pharmacy in Ontario, from a Shoppers Drug Mart in downtown Toronto to a Rexall in Thunder Bay.
- Conducted by a licensed physician
- Confidential intake form covering medical history, current medications, and contraindications
- Same-day prescription emailed or faxed to your chosen Ontario pharmacy
- Flat private fee, typically $40-$80, with no hidden charges

Methods We Can Prescribe Virtually β and What Requires In-Person Care
Not every contraceptive method is appropriate for a virtual visit. We are upfront about the boundary: hormonal methods that you self-administer can be safely prescribed online with a proper history and contraindication screen. Anything that requires a physical procedure must be done in person by a family doctor, gynaecologist, or sexual health clinic.
- Can prescribe online β combined oral contraceptives (Alesse, Marvelon, Yasmin, Tri-Cyclen), progestin-only pills (Micronor, Movisse), the contraceptive patch (Evra), the vaginal ring (NuvaRing), and emergency contraception (Plan B, Ella).
- Cannot prescribe online β intrauterine devices (Mirena, Kyleena, Liletta, Jaydess, copper IUD), the contraceptive implant (Nexplanon), and Depo-Provera injection. These methods require in-person insertion or administration.
- If you want an IUD or implant, we can still help you decide whether it's a good fit, then refer you to a local Ontario clinic for placement.
- Switching brands or reformulating a current pill is straightforward online with a brief reassessment.

How the Booking Process Works
The whole process is designed to fit a lunch break. You complete a short intake before your visit so the physician already has your medical history when the consultation starts. If you have a recent blood pressure reading from a pharmacy or smartwatch, share it; otherwise we can guide you through self-measurement.
- Step 1 β Book a slot at /book-prescription-refill and complete the secure intake form covering health history, smoking status, migraines, and current medications.
- Step 2 β A self-reported or recent blood pressure reading is requested. Free BP machines are available at most Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall locations across Ontario.
- Step 3 β A licensed physician reviews your file, completes a contraindication screen, and joins you on a secure video or phone consultation.
- Step 4 β If clinically appropriate, a same-day prescription is issued for you to fill at any Ontario pharmacy you choose. The flat consultation fee is collected at booking; medication cost is paid separately at the pharmacy.

Transparent Pricing β What You Actually Pay
Because OHIP does not reimburse out-of-province virtual private contraception consultations, every charge is disclosed before you book. There is no insurance bureaucracy, no bills mailed weeks later, and no surprise add-ons.
- Consultation fee β flat rate, typically $40-$80, shown before you confirm.
- Medication cost β paid separately at your pharmacy. Generic combined pills usually run $10-$25 per month; brand-name and newer formulations can be $30-$60.
- Patch and ring β typically $25-$45 per cycle out-of-pocket.
- Plan B β $25-$40 over the counter, but a prescription unlocks insurance reimbursement on many private plans.
- Some Ontarians qualify for medication coverage through the Ontario Drug Benefit β OHIP+ for residents under 25 without private insurance, and seniors 65+. Coverage applies to the drug, not the consultation.

Serving Every Region of Ontario
Ontario stretches from Windsor to Ottawa to Thunder Bay, and pharmacy access varies wildly. Whether you live in the GTA, a university town, a federal capital neighbourhood, or a rural community in Northern Ontario, the same virtual workflow applies.
- Greater Toronto Area β Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Oakville, Burlington, and Pickering.
- National Capital Region β Ottawa, Kanata, OrlΓ©ans, Nepean, and surrounding communities.
- Southwestern Ontario β Hamilton, London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, Windsor, and St. Catharines.
- Eastern and Northern Ontario β Kingston, Belleville, Peterborough, Barrie, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, North Bay, and Thunder Bay.
- Pharmacy chains accepted province-wide include Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall, Pharmasave, Loblaws Pharmacy, Costco, Walmart, and independent pharmacies.

Eligibility, Contraindications, and When the Pill Isn't the Right Fit
Combined oral contraceptives are very safe for most people, but estrogen carries cardiovascular risk in specific groups. Our screening follows Canadian guidelines and SOGC recommendations. If a combined pill isn't safe for you, a progestin-only option is usually still available.
- Smokers over 35 β combined estrogen-containing methods (COC, patch, ring) are generally not prescribed due to increased clot and stroke risk; progestin-only options remain available.
- Personal history of venous thromboembolism (DVT, PE) β estrogen-containing methods are contraindicated.
- Migraine with aura β combined hormonal methods are contraindicated; POPs are typically safe.
- BMI over 35, uncontrolled hypertension, current breast cancer, severe liver disease β case-by-case assessment with conservative prescribing.
- Postpartum and breastfeeding β progestin-only pills are usually preferred for the first 6 weeks and during exclusive breastfeeding.
When You Should See Your Family Doctor or a Specialist Instead
Virtual contraception care is excellent for routine pill, patch, and ring prescriptions, but some situations belong with a family physician, gynaecologist, or local sexual health clinic. We will tell you upfront if your case falls outside what we can safely manage online.
- IUD insertion β Mirena, Kyleena, Liletta, Jaydess, or copper IUD placement requires an in-person procedure with a trained provider.
- Contraceptive implant β Nexplanon insertion and removal must be done in person.
- Depo-Provera injection β given intramuscularly every 12 weeks at a clinic or pharmacy with injection services.
- Complex gynaecological issues β abnormal bleeding, suspected endometriosis, severe PCOS, or fertility planning are best managed by a family doctor or gynaecologist.
- Annual cervical screening β Pap smears and STI swabs require an in-person visit.
